Our Mission

The Guam National Golf federation (GNGF) is the governing body of amateur golf on the island of Guam. Founded in 1989, the objective of this non-profit organization has been to promote and maintain amateur golf on Guam. As the official United States Golf Association (USGA) representative, the Federation’s main objective is to enhance the enjoyment and preserve the traditions and the integrity of golf.

Among the other objectives of the GNGF are:

1) Handicap service

The GNGF provides handicap services for most of the recognized clubs on the island, and intends to broaden this operation to cover all clubs and associations.

2) Organizing and running of Guam’s amateur Championships…

for men, women, and Juniors, to include divisions for seniors and super-seniors
The first of these was held on February 28-March1-2 2003, at the Guam International Country Club. The junior section is planned for later this year.

3) Course rating

The GNGF is responsible for the rating of all golf courses on Guam, Saipan, and Rota islands. The most recent rating done was for the final nine of the Leo Palace Resort, which was done in late 2002. GNGF plans to launch a campaign to have all courses ratings updated, in cooperation with the USGA.

4) Communicating with the USGA

The Guam National Golf Federation is your link to the USGA. Matters involving amateur status, handicapping, rules, course ratings, and many more, are all handled by GNGF. This service is available to all members clubs, and individual members alike.

5) Expansion and development of a membership program

A/ For club memberships
B/ For individual membership
To qualify as a GNGF Member Club, you must have at least 10 members, appoint a handicap chair, and play together regularly to provide peer review. For details, contact us on our web site.
Individual membership This is a new program which will offer all individual members substantial savings at golf courses, golf equipment and repairs, golf attire, sporting goods, restaurants, and hotels. The individual will receive all the same benefits as club members. This program will be launched before the end of 2003.

6) Setting up of a Order of merit for all golfers

The Order of Merit began with the results of the Guam Amateur Championships held in February-March 2003. All future events held during each year, that are considered GNGF to be accepted tournaments, will be included in this point system, for men, women, and seniors. Juniors will have a similar system, with events organized by the Federation, as well as the existing junior organizations on Guam, counting towards points. These points will be used in the selection of golfers sent off island to represent Guam
At the end of each year, GNGF will award trophies to the leading Golfer in each category.

7) Setting up of a Golf Hall of Fame for Guam

The Federation will announce plans for the setting up of this Hall of Fame in 2003. All persons who have contributed to the development of the game will be considered for this prestigious award.

8 ) Hosting USGA events

This is the most ambitious of all our plans. In the past, all regional and sectional qualifiers for all USGA events have been held in the 50 states, which includes Hawaii. We will lobby strenuously to get Guam listed as well. Our argument is that, not only Guam residents will benefit, but also all the men and women of the Armed Forces, as well as their boys and girls, should have this chance. There are now over 100,000 members of the services serving in the Far East, who have no opportunity to participate in these events. Including Guam on the list, would only to fair to all these players.
